Kozakaido walk

Kozakaido road, which is the shortest route connecting Tanabe and Koza, flourished due to such activities as forestry and charcoal making. In this course you walk with a guide from Fukuiya, on the second half of that route, to Kurozu. While enjoying the scenery of the Koza-gawa River that flows between the cliffs of volcanic rock mountains and granite mountains, you will also encounter the way of life and culture of what was once a village.

Stone paving and the stone walls of terraced rice fields remain along the Samoto-gawa River, a tributary of the Koza-gawa River. They are part of the ruins of Fukuiya village. Is this place another Machu Picchu? The 15 stone Buddhist images enduring quietly on the mountain's surface are also worth seeing.

Trekking on the UNESCO World Heritage site Kumano Kodo

Kumano Kodo is a sacred road designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. There are six routes that go to the Kumano Sanzan. These include Nakahechi, which connects the town areas of Tanabe and Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine. There are many atmospheric, stone-paved paths remaining among rich-green trees. Walking on them you may feel the presence of past pilgrims.
