Tomogashima Islands
This group of four islands lies in the Kitan Straits. The main island, Okino, has about 400 species of wetland plants and features hiking trails through some very scenic areas.

Yosuien Garden
These magnificent gardens were built over a period of eight years by the 10th Kishu Lord, Harutomi Tokugawa. They are found in a scenic location on the far side of Wakayama Bay on an inlet known as Oura Bay. Flowers bloom through the various seasons.

Kii-Fudoki-no-Oka Museum of History
This is the place for an enjoyable walk through history with more than 500 ancient tumuli, a museum of ethnology, gardens and walking paths to several reconstructed Edo Period homes.

Historical Site of Prince Arima
Prince Arima’s life ended in tragedy at the young age of 19 because of feuding over succession to the throne. His tombstone is located near Fujishiro Shrine along the pilgrimage routes to Kumano.

Chohoji Temple
Chohoji Temple is known as the family temple of the Kishu Tokugawa Lords who are there interned and a National Treasure of Japan. In spring, the cherry trees enclose the path from the Daimon Gate in a tunnel of blossoms that gracefully welcomes the faithful.

Kodai Suzume Sushi
This sushi treat drenches fresh baby snapper caught in the Kada offshore in vinegar and neatly compresses it onto fisted balls of rice. Its name comes from the way it resembles a dancing sparrow (literally “suzume”). It is a very colorful and shapely sushi creation.
