This is a road of beautiful stone steps leading to sacred places on Mount Nachisan. On Kumano Kodo, there are vestiges of ancient times, including Tafuke Oji, the last of the 99 subordinate Kumano shrines, and Meotosugi, two 800-year-old Japanese cedar trees.

A beautiful, sacred waterfall with the greatest drop in JapanNachi Waterfall(Hiro-jinja Shrine)

This waterfall on the Nachi-gawa River has the highest uninterrupted drop in Japan. It is the object of worship of Hiro-jinja Shrine, a shrine associated with Kumano Nachi Taisha Grand Shrine. One ton of water falls per second from a height of 133 meters. The spray feels good, and by following the water down with your eyes you can see various forms such as that of a dragon.

This is a well-known diving spot in Kushimoto. You can sign up with just a bathing suit and towel and dive in the beautiful sea with coral. You will never forget your encounter with the more than 100 kinds of colorful fish that live in the coral reef.

This hot-spring hotel on the banks of the Koza-gawa River is popular as a place to drop in for a soak. The waters of this alkaline, simple thermal hot spring will smooth your skin and refresh your body when it's tired from playing in the river. The Koza-gawa River, on the southernmost end of Honshu, flows with clear water. When you paddle in a canoe in its pellucid waters and see the fish swimming and the bottom of the river, you will feel like you were floating in the air! Play in the river as much as you want. You can even experience fishing for freshwater prawns.

A deep pool that is the setting of a regional folktaleUrushigafuchi Pool

The name comes from the anecdote that long ago, two sons of a famous lacquerware craftsman fought about lacquer that built up in the bottom of a deep pool. Today local children play in the river in the area around Mochizuki-iwa Rock, which towers over the pool.

There is a waterfall with a drop of 8 meters on Ko-gawa River, a tributary streamlet of the Koza-gawa River. Visitors are surprised by the appearance of the bedrock covered in countless round holes. The sight of water falling down between the oddly shaped river rocks, sending up a white spray, is beautiful.

A huge rock that stands like a folding screen along the Koza-gawa RiverIchimai-iwa Monolith

The rock, 100 meters tall and 500 meters wide, has been designated by the Japanese government as a natural monument. The sight of the enormous rock soaring from the deep pool in the Koza-gawa River is overwhelming and mysterious. Flowers bloom in the area throughout tahe four seasons, so you can enjoy different scenery at different times of year.

Farmer’s Cafe Tsukuru

This cafe was opened as "a place for people to eat locally produced foods." Its set meals, sweets and breads made using vegetables and fruits grown mostly in the owner's garden and nearby farms are all made by hand. It offers a selection of soft drinks made using locally grown yuzu, ginger and other ingredients that are special products of the area. The cafe also has a shop selling agricultural products.
